Candle On The Water

The music you are listening to right now is very special to our entire family. Michael's sisters have been dancing for many years, even Michael danced for 1 year before he became ill. In 1999 his sister Ashley was performing a ballet routine to the music of Candle on the Water. By reading the words you will see why it is such an emotional song for our family. While Michael was in the hospital his sisters would visit him and perform their routines for him in the hallways of the hospital. Once we returned home one of the first things he wanted to see was them practicing their dance routines. Ashley's ballet turned out to be extra special to Michael especially. He loved the idea of being able to once again watch his sisters dance every day. When Ashley finished her performance to Candle On the Water Michael proudly turned to Ashley and said " Ashley you are my candle on the water!". We were so full of emotion no one could speak.

Ever since then, when we hear the song, we think of those dark times when Ashley shone brightly as Michael's candle on the water.

I'll be your candle on the water
My love for you will always burn
I know you're lost and drifting,
But the clouds are lifting
Don't give up you have somewhere to turn.

I'll be your candle on the water
'Till every wave is warm and bright
My soul is there beside you,
Let this candle guide you
Soon you'll see a golden stream of light.

A cold and friendless tide has found you
Don't let the stormy darkness pull you down
I'll paint a ray of hope around you
Circling in the air, lighted by a prayer.

I'll be your candle on the water
This flame inside of me will grow
Keep holding on, you'll make it
Here's my hand so take it
Look for me reaching out to show
As sure as rivers flow,
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go.
